It's the banana-shaped museum again...... and things have moved on from last month. The blockwork for the entrance annexe is finished, display boards have been mounted on the walls and electrics are starting to appear in the roof. PICTURE: Andy Goodwin 3908x849 2009-02-28 00:00:00 |
The other side of the museum building, as the wall display boards slowly turn grey, soon to be followed by the floor. PICTURE: Andy Goodwin 3140x987 2009-02-28 00:00:00 |
The bogies of the sister carriage to the Buffet Car -- No.25 -- are now complete and awaiting delivery to Porthmadog. Unlike the Buffet Car, this carriage is a replica...... the Buffet Car's sister having been scrapped after the Welsh Highland Railway closed. A sneak preview of what's to come on Easter Sunday...... 453x604 2009-02-28 00:00:00 |
Steam locomotive Karen is lowered gently down onto the rails after being lifted and turned round to face the other direction. The loco is being turned to go in the new museum building, where it will face visitors as they enter. 3072x2304 2009-03-13 10:29:03 |
A panoramic view along the new museum building, showing steam locomotive Karen as the first exhibit in place. The other stuff on the floor is proof that there's plenty more to do though! Karen has been put in place early to allow an access ramp to be built up to her. 1338x274 2009-03-15 16:32:43 |
A closer view of Karen in the new museum. The windows through to the next door room will give visitors a first glimpse of the steam locomotive as they enter the building. 3072x2304 2009-03-15 15:31:18 |
The newly installed wall boards in the entrance annexe awaiting painting and fitting of displays. 3072x2304 2009-03-15 15:34:55 |
Phil Ankers is hard at work in a corner of the Big Shed moving an electricity distribution board so the locomotive behind him can be moved into its final position. If the board had stayed, it would effectively have been walled in by the large diesel loco. 3072x2304 2009-03-13 14:14:15 |
The first of many shunting moves to put the exhibits in place in the museum saw Simplex No.6 leaving its temporary home in the new building. Here, it squeezes through the gap between the Big Shed and the Carriage & Wagon Shops. 3072x2304 2009-03-14 16:48:56 |
Elsewhere in the yard, the boiler of NG15 No.120 has been moved ready for collection by its new owners. The enormous 2-8-2 locomotive was sold earlier this year. 3072x2304 2009-03-14 12:47:30 |
RNAD Van No.59 has recently been through the wagon repair shops, and is looking very smart for it. 3072x2304 2009-03-14 12:48:47 |
A view of the 7.25" miniature railway at Gelerts Farm, which threads its way between the Cambrian Coast Line fence and a line of wagons from the Nantlle Railway. The shed is in the background, with the tram locomotive number 7 just visible. 3072x2304 2009-03-13 14:12:15 |
Elsewhere on the miniature line, the railway's owner, Bob Washington, is re-laying the track which has been removed to allow construction of the museum building. To ease the gradient, it needs to be lowered a few inches. 3072x2304 2009-03-13 14:07:28 |
Bob doesn't stay still for long, as the action shot suggests...... 3072x2304 2009-03-13 14:08:11 |
The end result of a hard day's (miniature) track bashing. The sections of line still need to be screwed together before trains can run. PICTURE: Ken Farrance 2816x2112 2009-03-13 16:17:25 |
Bagnall 0-4-2T Gelert has made its first trip in service, and is being fired up here for a driver experience turn. 3072x2304 2009-03-14 10:09:46 |
Out on the line, Gelert looks strange without a train in tow! The guest driver does a few trips light engine before returning to the works to pick up the coaching stock. 3072x2304 2009-03-14 12:31:38 |
The new mess has become a painting shop for new signboards for all the railway's stations. The Porthmadog and Gelerts Farm boards are almost complete. 3072x2304 2009-03-15 15:38:52 |
Spring Bash: the works train is up at Pen-y-Mount, where the civils gang are finishing off the second platform (which will become platform one!) 3072x2304 2009-03-21 10:56:53 |
The new platform is a busy site as slate waste is spread in place to form the foundations, then kerbstones are laid. 3072x2304 2009-03-21 10:59:23 |
At the far end of the work site, Nigel Hanwell is in charge of the excavator, filling the dumper with slate waste and digging holes. 3072x2304 2009-03-21 11:02:25 |
Dave Hill carefully measures out the position of the next kerbstone. 3072x2304 2009-03-21 10:52:11 |
