The volunteers of the WHHR staged their annual Christmas Day working party, with up to ten people on site doing various things during the morning...... one of the tasks was to lay out track components ready for relaying the main line next week.  The orange Simplex stands by the storage area being loaded up.

Work has begun on restoring Baldwin 794 at Alan Keef Ltd in Herefordshire.  Here, one side of the frames is machined to the correct shape.

Spirit of the Welsh Highland Gala
The visiting Baldwin is the star of the gala weekend at the start of May, when it will help recreate scenes of the WHR of the 1920s, when sister locomotive No.590 operated on the line.  PICTURE: Stuart McNair

Ashbury Carriage Number 25
Looking along the carriage through the first class section.  The Buffet Car is a carriage of two halves; the other half consists of a small third class section and the buffet counter and preparation area.  The high standard of the work can be seen here in the turned seat legs and period upholstery.

It's the banana-shaped museum again...... and things have moved on from last month.  The blockwork for the entrance annexe is finished, display boards have been mounted on the walls and electrics are starting to appear in the roof.  PICTURE: Andy Goodwin

A close up of the weighbar shaft, which connects the motion on both sides of the locomotive, and the reversing screw control in the cab.  Fitting this proved harder than anticipated, as it turned out that the bearing housings that hold it in place had been fitted wrongly when the locomotive was built in 1906!
